The couple married and had two more children, including Chris. His father had been married with five children when he lost his wife to an aneurism, then met a woman with five children who had similarly lost her husband to an aneurism. “But I certainly heard about it from friends, colleagues and family for a long time afterward.” As the 11th of 12 children in his family, Nebel had plenty of family members to hear from. “It wasn’t as dramatic as police pursuits or other things you see on COPS,” Deputy Nebel said. He stopped a young man driving a golf cart without its lights on and soon discovered the suspect was on probation, driving without a license, out after curfew, and without proof of ownership of the golf cart. “After visiting Southwest Florida several times, my wife and I made the decision to relocate here.” Beginning on road patrol in the North District, Nebel soon found unexpected fame when he was featured during a 2007 episode of the television program COPS. ![]() “The warmer weather brought me here,” Nebel recalled.
